Benjamin Franklin Fire Writer’s Award winner announced

The National Fire Heritage Center (NFHC) has announced Fireproof Children/Prevention1st of Rochester, New York, as the winner of the Benjamin Franklin Fire Writer's Award for authorship of the formal text, "Juvenile Firesetting: A Community Guide to Prevention and Intervention."

The award was presented on July 26 to Prevention1st president Molly Clifford by the NFHC's Executive Director Wayne Powell and Archivist Frank Schmersal at the annual National Safe Kids conference in Baltimore, Maryland.

"Juvenile Firesetting: A Community Guide to Prevention and Intervention" is a guide to both prevention and intervention for everyone concerned about the problem of juvenile firesetting and children's fireplay, how to prevent it, and how to respond appropriately. It is meant for anyone working with children, including fire service and other community agencies and services, teachers and daycare providers, social workers, mental health professionals, and parents.

The manual was written by Robert Cole, Ph.D.; Robert Crandall; Carolyn E. Kourofsky; Daryl Sharp, Ph.D., R.N., N.P.P.; Susan W. Blaakman, M.S., R.N., N.P.P.; and Elizabeth Cole, B.S., R.N.
