Todd Canale is the Chief, Fire Emergency Service (FES) Flight for the 355th Civil Engineer Squadron, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona. The DMAFB FES is one of thirty internationally accredited Air Force fire departments within the Department of Defense through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. Chief Canale is directly responsible to the Base Civil Engineer for determining the resources required for the installation’s overall fire emergency services program. He manages and oversees all aspects of the flight to include: fire protection & prevention, aircraft and structural rescue firefighting, hazardous materials response, mutual aid, initial emergency medical care, confined space rescue and mass casualty events. He Directs $20M in fire emergency service resources and supervises a flight of 65 Department of Defense career firefighters, both military and civilian, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. He is also the co-founder and managing member of an Arizona real estate holdings company. Additionally, he continues to serve in the Air Force Reserve as Arizona's Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officer with 1AF/NSEP. As a professor, he teaches both fire science and leadership at Columbia Southern University and Pima Community College, where he has been affiliated since 1999. Chief Canale started his fire service career in 1988 with the California Department of Forestry in Riverside, California. His work experience with the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Fire Department spans four decades dating back to 1989 where he served as a firefighter in the United States Air Force Reserve. After being mobilized for both Desert Shield and Desert Storm he moved to Tucson permanently in 1991. Since that time he has served in every capacity of the department up to his current position as Fire Chief. Chief Canale is the Chairperson for the Military and Federal Firefighter Section of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the Department of Defense's Commissioner on the Center for Public Safety Excellence's Commission on Personal Credentialing. In addition, he serves on multiple committees to include the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Arizona and Pima County Fire Chiefs Association, Arizona State Fire Marshals Training, Pima Community College Fire Science Advisory, and Pima County Inter-agency Training Committees.
